Gambari Urges FG To Consider National Conference Report

CHANNELS TV

The Federal Government has been advised to consider the report of the National Conference constituted by former President Goodluck Jonathan in 2014.
Nigeria’s former Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Professor Ibrahim Gambari, gave the recommendation at a forum in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.
The forum was organised by the Savannah Centre for Diplomacy, Democracy and Development, to examine Nigeria’s fourth republic.
Professor Gambari, who is the Chairman of the centre, said that government is a continuum and as such, the Federal Government needs to examine the report before discarding it.
He explained that it was a waste of human and material resources for the government to ignore the resolution of 492 Nigerians.
In his speech, a former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Professor Bolaji Akinyemi, blamed some citizens for portraying Nigeria in bad light at international fora and urged the populace to rise up in defence of the nation.
A university don from Jos, Professor Sam Egwu, also berated those calling for regional government, saying that federalism remained the best option for Nigeria.
The forum which continued its deliberations behind closed doors, would among other issues discuss the structure of governance in Nigeria as is relates to marginalisation.

It would also evaluate the federal, state and local government structure since 1999, with a view to addressing corruption and impunity in all arms of government.
