Anambra PDP Raises Alarm Over Non-Conduct Of Ward Congress

CHANNELS TV

The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra State has called for a fresh conduct of the ward congress.
This comes as no congress was held anywhere in the 326 wards of the state as scheduled.
Addressing reporters at the PDP secretariat in Awka, the State Chairman of the party, Mr Ejike Oguebego, said that members of the party were mobilised and waited for the congress committee led by Mr Ladi Edun, for a proper conduct of the ward congress but to no avail.
He joined other members of the state executive council to condemn the conduct of the congress by the committee chairman and his team, who he said failed in their duty to carry out the assignment entrusted into their hands with no justifiable reason.
Mr Oguebego called for a fresh election to afford the party members choose their ward executives.
The party’s legal adviser, Mr Chuks Okoye, cited the provisions of the party guideline for the conduct of congresses, which stipulates that the congress committee must present themselves to the appropriate executive of the state who will assist in providing venues for the ward congress.
He insisted that the unavailability of the congress committee nullified the entire exercise.
Mr Okoye added that some of the embittered committee members had already submitted a petition to the PDP National Chairman, informing him of the situation

Members of the party say they are waiting to hear from the national secretariat to act immediately and restore confidence in the minds of the party faithful through the conduct of a credible and proper ward congress.
