The Senate Committee on Works will hold talks with the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Fashola, to put together plans for the reconstruction of all bailey bridges in Nigeria.
The Senate approved this action after a federal lawmaker, Senator Gilbert Nnaji, drew the attention of the upper chamber to the recurring collapse of bailey bridges nationwide.
Senator Nnaji said many of the bridges had either caved in or collapsed due to age and pressure.
Bailey bridges were built in Nigeria during the pre-independence and post-independence era and up to the few years after the Nigerian Civil War, to provide temporary crossing for foot and vehicle traffic.
