The Nigerian government has indicated plans to privatise the country’s postal services.
The acting Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Winifred Oyo-Ita, stated this during an unscheduled visit to the Federal Ministry of Communication Technology on Tuesday.
In a statement, the deputy director of Communications at the office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Mohammed Manga, said Ms. Oyo-Ita said the Nigerian Postal Services will possibly enter into public private partnership in areas such as courier services, money transfer, E-comerce and mordernizing postal services.
He said the aim of the intended privatisation was to stem wastage of government’s resources.
Mr. Manga said Ms. Oyo-Ita called on civil servants to be disciplined and particularly charged the workers to report early to office.
Ms. Oyo-Ita, according to Mr. Manga, commended the civil servants for being at their offices as early as 8:10 am.
Mr. Manga announced that in order to empower the ministry’s workforce, there would be training programs to improve upon their knowledge of Information Communication Technology.
He also called for more cooperation on the part of the workers with their management, adding that the Head of Civil Service would operate an open-door policy based on the Public Service Rule.
