Union Seeks Probe Of Local Councils Across Nigeria

Channels Tv
The Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees is requesting for a probe of local governments across Nigeria, alleging that most state governments divert their funds for personal projects.
At a press conference in Abuja on Monday, the union requested that the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari should beam its anti-corruption searchlight on the local governments.
The President of the union, Mr Ibrahim Khaleel, told reporters the Local Government Joint Account, as operated by the States was a huge fraud.
“The biggest corruption that is happening on our land is the corruption that is taking place in State and Local Government Joint Account.
“This is the money that state governors always syphon to finance their personal projects and political activities.
“That should be checkmate addressed and whoever is found guilty must be brought to book.
As far as the fight is concerned, no place should be left as an island,” he said.
Mr Khaleel also promised that the union would render its support by providing information on corrupt practices of local council chairmen and governors to the Federal Government-led anti-graft agencies.
