channels tv
Aggrieved members of NUPENG staged a protest at the office of Chevron Oil Nigeria (CNL) in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital on Wednesday, in solidarity of contract staff of the oil company.
According to the Union, contract staff of the oil giant had been subjected to inhuman treatment by the organisation.
The union members danced to solidarity slogans as they barricaded the gates of the oil company not allowing any movement.
They called on Chevron to review the casualization of their workers and pay up all their outstanding allowances.
Attempts made to reach the management of Chevron in Port Harcourt were unsuccessful as security men told Channels Television that no member was available to speak on the matter.
The protesters, however, vowed to continue to picket Chevron’s offices until their demands are met.
The Southwest Chairman of the Union, Mr Tokunbo Korodo, who led the protesting workers, said that the action was meant to keep the public abreast of the situation in CNL.
