Ex-Governor Akpabio discharged from hospital after car crash

A former Governor of Akwa Ibom State and Senate Minority Leader, Godswill Akpabio, has been discharged from the National Hospital, Abuja, hours after he was admitted for treatment following an auto crash involving his convoy on Monday.
Mr. Akpabio emerged from the ward in company with his successor, Udom Emmanuel, at 5:10 p.m., witnesses said.

Spotting a gray kaftan, the former governor was assisted down the steps and led to the governor’s official car which was parked close to the ward.

Mr. Emmanuel helped Mr. Akpabio into the front seat of the official car before the vehicle drove out of the hospital premises accompanied by security operatives and aides.

Other top functionaries, who witnessed Mr. Akpabio being discharged included former Abia State Governor, Theodore Orji and the Executive Secretary of the National Christian Pilgrims Commission, John Kennedy Opara.

The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly Speaker, Aniekan Uko, had left the hospital shortly before Mr. Akpabio was discharged.
 
PREMIUM TIMES had exclusively reported how Mr. Akpabio escaped death early Monday after his car got involved in an accident along the Airport Road in Abuja.

The accident occurred near the Bolingo Junction close to the Ship House, Abuja.
A witness said Mr. Akpabio was moving in a convoy of vehicles towards the City Gate when his vehicle ran into another car belonging to the American embassy.
