Human rights and Civil Society Groups have thrown their support behind victims of bomb blasts in northern Nigeria, who have formed an association to present their demands to the authorities.
At the formal launch of the Bomb Victims Association of Nigeria (BVAN) in Abuja, the groups led by the Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Prof Chidi Odinkalu, said victims are not only those who suffered physical injuries but includes family members of the deceased, some of whom suffered emotional trauma.
They said every bomb blast anywhere in the country is an assault on the unity of the country and the establishment of the BVAN signifies a power shift from government to the people, who bear the brunt of these attacks.
