Contrary to earlier insinuations by the Kaduna State Governor-elect, Nasir El-Rufai, is going to inherit an empty treasury, the outgoing State Governor says his administration is leaving behind the sum of 8.6bn Naira for the incoming administration.
Governor Mukhtar Yero made the disclosure during his handover to the incoming Governor on Thursday at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim Government House, Kaduna, North-west Nigeria.
Presenting a summary of his stewardship to Mr El-Rufai, the outgoing Governor placed Kaduna State’s debt profile as at May 21, as 73bn Naira, he stressed that the state was not owing its workers any month’s salary.
The Governor explained that the debt comprised 46bn Naira from Local Government Sources, 2bn Naira Internal Bonds and 23bn Naira pending arrears to contractors in the state.
Mr El-Rufai had earlier said that his government would carry out a comprehensive audit of all expenditure by the outgoing administration.
He clarified that the measure would enable his administration recover funds that might have allegedly been stolen by top officials of the outgoing administration in the state.

The Governor-elect, however, admitted that the situation on the ground was not as envisaged, adding that the Transition Committee of the APC in the state would scrutinise the handover note and thereafter make its observations known.
