The National Sports Commission has congratulated Super Falcons striker, Asisat Oshoala, for winning the maiden BBC Women’s Player of the Year Award.
The director general of the commission, Al-Hassan Yakmut, also congratulated the Nigeria Football Federation on behalf of the commission.
He thanked them for helping the player achieve such a remarkable feat in her career.
“Nigerians and the Sports Commission are proud of the achievement recorded by Oshoala,” Mr. Yakmut told journalists in Abuja. “By this singular and remarkable feat, she has written her name and that of Nigeria in gold.
“As a goal scorer, she was the most valuable player at the African Women Championship in Namibia last year when Nigeria clinched her seventh title of the tournament.”
Oshoala won the most valuable player at the last Women’s Championship in Namibia. She also won the Golden boot at the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup in Canada.
The NSC boss urged other athletes to emulate Oshoala by working hard and making the nation proud.
