The Abia State Governor- elect, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, has said he will declare a state of emergency on waste particularly in the commercial city of Aba from June 1 after his swearing in on May 29.

Ikpeazu said this while responding to questions on his blue print during an interactive session with the Aba business community and his Ngwa kinsmen on Friday night at a dinner organised by the ‘Kezie Abia Group’

He said he would engage 2,000 youths on cabbage management, adding that he would also abolish dumping of wastes into refuse bins on the streets and introduce collection of wastes from homes by August.

Ikpeazu who prior to his emergence, was in charge of waste management in Aba, said all dump sites in the state would be fenced off from public glare.
On how to rebuild Aba, Ikpeazu said he had concluded arrangements to flag off five roads in the commercial city on June 1 , adding that, “I will not build Dubai or China roads but durable roads with stone base furnished with street lights.”

He further declared that the era of indiscriminate building in Aba was gone, hinting that some illegal buildings in the commercial town which block water channels might be touched to save Aba from perennial flooding.

Earlier in his remarks, Leader of the Kezie Abia Group, Dan Ubani, tasked the Governor- elect and his team on prudent management of scarce resources, saying that Abians would not tolerate any excuse for non- performance.
