The Rector of Anglican Theology Schools in Nigeria, Rt Reverend Dapo Asaju, has admonished the President-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari to rule the country with the fear of God and ensure he recovers all stolen funds and assets from corrupt public office holders as he settles down to take the affairs of the country come May 29, 2015.

Speaking at the third synod of the Zaria Diocese of the Anglican Communion in Kaduna State on Sunday, Reverend Asaju urged General Buhari to ensure he prosecutes all corrupt government officials irrespective of their background, and also ensure he revives the nation’s refineries and as well address the problem of unemployment.
The cleric also urged the governors-elect and other elected political office holders across the states to imbibe the tenets of integrity, openness, transparency and prudence in the discharge of their duties.
The 2015 edition of the annual event, which commenced on May 14, has as its theme; ‘Walking in the Light of God’.
While expressing optimism on the capability of General Buhari to fulfil his campaign promises, the clergymen tasked him to ensure he routs out the Boko Haram insurgents from the North East.
Apart from reviewing the activities of the church over the months, the synod also reviewed the recent conduct of the general elections where it made some observations.
They recommended that the National Identity Card be used in place of the Permanent Voter Cards for future elections in order to ensure that all eligible Nigerians discharge their franchise.
The synod also wants the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to consider the introduction of electronic voting whereby Nigerians in diaspora can vote.
The synod is the highest decision making body of the church and usually hold once a year. It is composed of all clergies from the diocese, the diocesan board, and synod delegates from all parishes in the diocese.

A synod remains the annual prayerful gathering of the leadership of the Church faithful in order to do some soul-searching, meditate and deliberate on the progress and constraints of God’s work and stewardship as established.
