Defence Minister Seeks Stronger Ties With Sudan

The Minister of Defence, Mansur Muhammad Dan-Ali has called for greater cooperation between Nigeria and Sudan.
Dan-Ali made the call during a courtesy visit to his Sudanese counterpart, Gen. Ahmad Ibn Auf in Khartoum, according to a statement by his spokesperson, Col. Tukur Gusau..
The minister, who was in Sudan on a three-day, said stronger ties were needed especially in the areas of procurement and production of military hardware.
He thanked the Sudanese authorities for being good hosts to Nigerian troops in the Darfur region, adding that both countries would soon sign a memorandum of understanding to enhance cooperation between the Armed Forces of Nigeria and Sudanese Military.
During his stay in Sudan, Dan-Ali visited the Military Industrial Corporation of Sudan, Sur International Company which produces military equipment and Yarmouk Industrial Corporation, which also produces military hardware.
The defence minister, who met with several Sudanese officials including the Vice President, Lt.-Gen. Omar Albded, said there were plans to see how the companies could collaborate with the Nigeria Military Industrial Complex.
He urged Nigerian troops under the United Nations Mission in Dafur to respect the laws of the land and avoid human rights controversies.
