Anambra State governor, Willie Obiano, has flagged off projects worth 20 million Naira in two communities in the State.
Nnobi in Idemili South Local Government Area and Ukwulu in Dunukofia Local Government Area are pilot towns for the projects targeted at ensuring that people at the grassroots felt the impact of governance.
Earlier in a broadcast on the state’s plans to cushion the pain of the economic recession on the people, the Governor announced four stimulus packages of which the community gesture falls on infrastructure packages meant to address the collective need of communities.
The residents of the communities will choose the project, supervise and take ownership of it afterwards while the state government sponsors.
Nnobi community chose a 500 seating capacity Town Hall while Ukwulu community went for a 400 seating capacity Civic Centre which the Governor assured them would all be completed in four months, having fully mobilised the contractors.
Work has already commenced on site at Nnobi community in Idemili Local Government area under the 20 million Naira Choose-Your-Project Development Initiative of the state government.
According to the Governor, all the 179 communities in the state will benefit in the project.
He assured the residents of the communities that the contractor for Nnobi project had been mobilised.
On his part, the Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Town Union Matters, Mr Greg Obi, said the project was a well thought out plan both in choice and implementation, as it was grassroots oriented.
The President General of Nnobi community, Mr Samuel Ofodile, also expressed gratitude to the Governor for immortalising his name with the signature project.
In Ukwulu in Dunukofia Local Government Area, excitement filled the air, as men and women sing the exploits of Governor Obiano in Anambra state within a short time.
The Governor assured them of speedy completion of the Civic Centre while they complement by taking ownership of it too.
The joy of women in the community knew no bound, as the project when completed would serve as a rallying point for the community as well as stimulate local economy for the community as revenue would be raised from activities like weddings and other social celebrations.
