The joy of supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State knows no bounds as Mr Godwin Obaseki emerged the governor-elect of the state.
The APC supporters on Thursday, took to the major streets of Benin City, the state’s capital to celebrate their party’s victory.
They have also described the polls as free, fair and credible.
APC leaders in the state, however, advised the supporters to adhere to the rule of law.
They urged them to celebrate with caution to avoid a faceoff with rivals from other parties.
INEC had on Thursday declared Mr Obaseki winner of the governorship polls, having polled 319,483 votes.
His closest rival, who is also the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Osagie Ize-Iyamu scored 253,173 votes.
The candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Mr Osaro Onaiwu, scored 876 while his Labour Party counterpart, Mr Amos Areloegbe polled 182 votes.
“Bad Loser”
Mr Ize-Iyamu has rejected the results declared by the electoral umpire.
He alleged that voters were induced and that the state government collaborated with INEC to doctor the results in favour of the APC.
In his reaction, the APC Chairman in Edo State, Mr Anselm Ojezua, described the rejection of the election results by the PDP as “an act of a bad loser”.
Mr Ojezua insisted that the entire process of the election has been described as peaceful.
