A biography of President Muhammadu Buhari, written by an American author, will be presented to the public on October 3 in Abuja.
The book, titled, “Muhammadu Buhari: The Challenge of Leadership in Nigeria,” is written by John Paden, a Professor of International Studies who has deep knowledge of Nigeria and its leaders.
Mr. Paden is also the author of a book: Ahmadu Bello: Sardauna of Sokoto, a biography of the late Premier of the North with emphasis on “Values and Leadership in Nigeria” which he wrote in 1986.
Mr. Buhari’s biography is expected to be presented at the International Conference Centre Abuja, with the president himself expected to be in attendance.
Sources at the Presidential Villa told PREMIUM TIMES that although Mr. Buhari has signified his intention to attend the Book launch, he has however, given directive that the event should not be an official event.
“The President has personally written to all the governors intimating them about the launch and asking them to kindly attend if they have the time,” a source said.
We also gathered that Mr. Paden is well known to the president for over thirty years which made it easy for him to have access to the president to gather inputs for the book.
“The president gave him unfettered access and has had long interviews. He really encouraged him by giving him audience,” our source said.
Details or summary of the book has not been made available yet. The author also told PREMIUM TIMES that he would not grant interviews until after the launch.
Some of the Books written by Mr. Paden include: Postelection Conflict Management in Nigeria: The Challenge of National Unity, Faith and Politics; Nigeria as a Pivotal State in the Muslim World and Muslim Civic Cultures; and Conflict Resolution: The Challenges of Democratic Federalism in Nigeria.
The Professor is also currently carrying out a research on relations between Muslim sub-cultures in Nigeria. He has also developed a Mason partnership with Usman Danfodiyo University in Sokoto, focusing on conflict resolution, with a focus on inter-faith dialogue.
