The 20-year-old is itching to get started with the Colchoneros and says he has spoken to compatriots Radamel Falcao and Jackson Martinez for advice prior to next season.
Rafael Santos Borre has labelled Atletico Madrid as “the club of his dreams” and believes they have enough quality to land a La Liga and Champions League double this season.
Santos Borre joined the Colchoneros from Colombian side Deportivo Cali in August 2015 on a six-year deal, before being loaned straight back to his homeland for another 12 months.
The highly-rated 20-year-old forward says he can't wait to get started with Atletico from July 1 and has lauded them as the perfect outfit to develop at.
“It was a great joy to know that such a big club like Atletico was interested and I immediately knew it was the ideal club for me,” Santos Borre told Goal in an exclusive interview.
“Besides I always dreamed of getting to an important club in Europe and I feel that Atletico is the club of my dreams.”
Atletico have an excellent track record of developing young players over the years, from Sergio Aguero and Fernando Torres in their early days to the current generation including Jose Gimenez, Saul Niguez, Oliver Torres and Angel Correa.
Santos Borre is hoping to become the latest starlet to sparkle at the Vicente Calderon and has already started to gather advice in order to boost his chances of hitting the ground running next season.
The Barranquilla-born marksman has revealed he has spoken to compatriots and former Atletico strikers Radamel Falcao and Jackson Martinez, who have given him some pointers on how he can make an instant impact in the Spanish capital.
“I had the opportunity to play in Colombia's national team and talk with Radamel Falcao and Jackson Martinez and they advised me to learn a lot about the philosophy of Atletico's coach [Diego Simeone],” he continued.
“First I have to adapt to the philosophy of the team. Then I'll try to win a space in the team.”
Atletico are in the mix to win both La Liga and also the Champions League under the Argentine this term and Santos Borre believes his parent club have enough about them to succeed in both tournaments.
“For me football it depends on the moment, so I'm sure Atletico has enough capacity to win the Champions League and La Liga at this moment,” Santos Borre added. “We have a great team to fight for these big things.” Atletico are currently joint top of La Liga with Barcelona on 82 points with three games to go, while they also face Bayern Munich in the Champions League semi-finals.
