The defender will play no part in the country's quest to win the men's football gold medal in Brazil owing to groin affliction.
Kasimpasa’s Kenneth Omeruo has been ruled out of representing Nigeria at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
The defender who missed the Super Eagles’ Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Egypt in Kaduna and Alexandria will be unavailable for Samson Siasia’s side because his team doctor insists he needs time to recover.
And Omeruo who was hoping to represent Nigeria after failure to qualify for the 2015 and 2017 Africa Cup of Nations has expressed his disappointment and believes the Dream Team VI would soar in Brazil.
“I feel sad about it as it was another good opportunity for me to represent my country," Omeruo told BBC Sport.
"The doctor insists I need rest to start next season without injury.
"It is disappointing and frustrating to say the least. I'd be lying if I said I would not want to be out there playing.
"But at the same time I need to be fully fit to be at my best and I have no doubt that the squad will do great in Brazil.
"I would also like to thank the coach [Siasia] for even considering me in the first place,” he concluded.
Nigeria will begin their quest for a gold medal against Japan on August 4 at the AmazĂ´nia Arena, Manaus before facing Colombia and Sweden in Group B.
