CHANNELS TV
The Nigerian government has banned top functionaries from flying first class whenever they embark on official trips in a bid to reduce overhead costs.
The Minister of Finance, Mrs Kemi Adeosun, said that the ban would reduce air travel expenditure by 20 per cent and save the government about 13.88 billion Naira.
In a statement issued on Thursday by the office of the Finance Minister on Wednesday, all government officials would have to travel on business class section.
Mrs Adeosun explained that the development was one of the recommendations made by the Efficiency Unit, which was set up last year to reduce overhead expenses.
She also recommended a reduction in travel frequency by ensuring that meetings, workshops and conferences in Nigeria are held in locations where the institutions or persons participating in the event are domiciled.
