Cudicini: Conte appointment provides new hope for Chelsea

The former Blues goalkeeper has backed his compatriot to succeed at Stamford Bridge and believes he is capable of turning things around after a dismal 2015-16 campaign.

Former Chelsea goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini has given Antonio Conte his backing as the Italian prepares to take over at Stamford Bridge.

Conte has officially announced that he will leave his job with the Italian national football team after Euro 2016, with Goal reporting on Sunday that the 46-year-old is in London to finalise contract talks that will see him take over from Guus Hiddink in July.

Cudicini is impressed by his fellow countryman’s credentials and believes the Blues are capable of getting back on track under the former Juventus head coach.

He told Goal: "He is very prepared and doing a very good job with the Italian side as well and it would be very interesting if he is appointed. There will be a new manager and a new hope next season and I am sure they will turn the page.

"He is a coach with a winning mentality who demands a lot from his players. He is a very passionate manager and is very detailed in his preparation of his team.

"He is mechanical, in the way he makes sure he knows everything about his team behind the scenes, and the opponents. He is Italian so he is very passionate about what he does. He is driven for success, leaving nothing to chance.

"I haven't heard anything [official] about him being appointed yet but I know he has been a fantastically successful manager for Juventus for three or four years, winning the league three or four times in a row.

"He has been successful with almost every team he has been involved with. He got promoted with Siena from Serie B to Serie A but had a difficult year with Atalanta."
