The Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 7, comprising of the FCT, Kaduna and Niger States, Mr Ballah Nasarawa has announced the arrest of three persons allegedly involved in the abduction of three clergymen in the state on March 28, 2016.
The arrest is coming barely three days after the Inspector General of Police directed the AIG to relocate to Kaduna and curb the rising cases of kidnappings and other security challenges in the state.
While addressing some Senior officers of the Kaduna Police Command shortly after his arrival on Thursday, Mr Nasarawa disclosed that as part of measures to curb kidnapping, some vital strategic re-adjustment of the command’s structures would be made in order to ensure that they get rid of all criminal elements that have been terrorizing residents of Kaduna State.
Part of the new strategy according to him, will evolve new intelligence gathering and crime-fighting techniques and methodologies to suit the local challenges.
The AIG said that the suspects would be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.
He also noted that the Police Anti-Kidnapping Squad, in collaboration with other security agencies in the state, are working tirelessly to arrest the abductors and killers of the late army colonel.
In carrying out the IG’s directive, Mr Nasarawa said residents of Kaduna might experience some short time inconveniences, but assured that his men shall respect the fundamental rights of the citizens.
Rev. Dziggau, Rev. Yakubu Dzarma and Rev. Iliya Anto were abducted on March 21 along the Kaduna-Abuja Expressway where they had gone to clear a piece of land for the foundation of the church seminary.
However, Rev. Iliya Anto was said to have died after he was left in the bush by the kidnappers following his health condition.
A top official of United Church of Christ who pleaded anonymity said on Thursday, that Dziggau and Dzarma were freed while the corpse of Rev. Anto was found, almost decomposing in the bush.
According to him, the two clergymen were immediately taken to a private hospital in Kaduna after they were brought to the church along Katsina Road in Kaduna metropolis.
