The Jama’atu Nasril Islam, JNI, headed by the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar, has commended Nigerian Muslims for the successful commencement of Ramadan fasting on same day.
“It was indeed gratifying, that Allah (SWT) made the commencement in unison-Alhamdulillah for His grace,” JNI said in a statement by its Secretary General, Khalid Aliyu, on Sunday
It called on Nigerian Muslims to utilize the spirit of Ramadan by being more God-conscious through being punctual in the observance of the five daily prayers in congregation, the night prayer, Taraweeh, frequent recitation of the Quran, and continued remembrance of Allah.
“Likewise, Muslims are called upon to fervently pray for the restoration of peace, stability and security in our dear country, Nigeria,” the statement said.
It also called on state governments and well to do individuals to extend benevolent gestures, such as alms giving and support to the millions of Internally Displace persons, IDPs spread across the country, most especially those in the North East.
“This is the most appropriate time they need such assistance,” JNI said.
It also asked Islamic scholars to abide by the Tafseer (exegesis) guidelines of the Quran during the fasting season.
“In addition, they are as well implored to fear Allah, the Most High and conduct their respective Tafseer sessions in line with the Qur’an and Sunnah of the Noble Prophet, using courteous language and kind words. They should as well shun bad preaching during the Tafseer sessions.
“Indeed Ramadan is a month of self restraint, patience, servitude and dedication to Allah, the Most High, hence we must collectively do so to earn Allah’s pleasure, forgiveness and mercy in this blessed month.
“Procrastination in performing good deeds is the enemy of man, therefore we must be more dedicated to Allah’s worship now and beyond. There is no better period than the Ramadan,” it said.
JNI also urged leaders at all levels to fear God in discharging their responsibilities, so as to attract His ease against the present economic challenge facing Nigeria.
