Members of the House of Representatives in Nigeria have produced a document they described as ‘a new road-map’ to guide them in their legislative functions.
The document was produced during a meeting held on Tuesday as part of the federal lawmakers’ aim to ensure the 8th House of Representatives meets the expectation of Nigerians.
Declaring open, a retreat organised in partnership with some development partners, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, also noted that the document would meet the expectations of the public.
Some of the legislators, Zakari Mohammed, Aishatu Dukku and Kingsley Chindo, all assured that the Assembly would ensure the document’s implementation level is better than the legislative agenda proposed by the 7th Assembly.
The Executive Director, Policy and Legal Advocacy Centre, Mr Clement Nwankwo, and the Senior Governance Adviser of DFID, Catherine Weiss, who were both development partners at the retreat outlined the importance of the event.
The proposed agenda put together by the forum would be presented to the Lower Chamber in plenary for discussion and adoption.
