Eminent Nigerians, diplomats, businessmen and broadcasters have converged on the Cafe Royal Hotel on Regent Street in London to celebrate the launch of Channels 24 UK.

Despite its multiple award-winning status nationally and internationally, Channels Television is not resting on its laurels as it launches out to the global stage.

The Chairman/CEO of Channels Television, Mr John Momoh, referred to the launch of Channels 24 as a defining moment for Nigeria and the rest of Africa because Channels Television is extending its services to the UK so that Nigerians and Africans can tell their own story.

While speaking at a meeting between diplomats and staff of Channels Television ahead of the launch, Mr Momoh added that with Channels TV in the UK, on an international platform such as Sky, an opportunity has emerged to tell Africa’s story and showcase the good news that hitherto has been obscure.

He said that the station will bring the African perspectives to the global stage.

Channels Television is one of the 13 independent television stations currently broadcasting in Nigeria, since the Federal Government deregulated the broadcast media in 1992.

Channels Television’s bias for news and adherence to broadcast ethics has placed it well above other competitors in the Nigerian television industry.

The station has bagged the ‘Best Television Station of the Year’ – an award endowed by the Nigerian Media Merit Award Trust – nine times in the last fourteen years (2000, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2008, 2010, 2011, 2012  &  2013/2014), thereby making Channels Television the “Station of the Decade”.

The company is staffed with some of the best broadcast journalists in the country, with a staff strength of over 326, some of whom have received training in Europe, South Africa, the United Kingdom and the United States, and many also bagging numerous awards of different categories, nationally and internationally.
