A 70-year-old woman identified as Moninola Lateef, was on Wednesday arrested by the Ogun State Police Command for alleged armed robbery alongside her son and two others.
This was disclosed by the Command Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, who explained that the septuagenarian was arrested along with the gang members for allegedly assisting his 35-year-old son, Modiu Lateef, who sustained gunshot injuries during an operation.
Mr. Adejobi said the woman and the gang of suspected armed robbers had been terrorising residents of Abeokuta and environs, for some time before they were arrested by Special Anti-Robbery operatives.
Parading the suspects, Mr. Adejobi said, Modiu Lateef, 35; Wale Okukenu, 30 and; 28-year-old Fatai Osho had been on the wanted list of the police before they were eventually tracked down.
He explained that the 70-year-old woman was arrested alongside the robbery suspects for allegedly taking his son to a herbalists to extract pellets lodged in his body when he was shot during a robbery operation.
He said the old woman would soon be charged along with the three robbery suspects to court.
Similarly, the police arrested a five-man gang of kidnappers who had been terrorising residents of Ijebu area of the state. The gang had allegedly abducted a man who just returned to the country.
Mr. Adejobi said three members of the kidnap gang who claimed to be Christian clerics, and the fourth, said to be a herbalist, deceived their victim with an offer of spiritual assistance for certain personal problem he was having.
He said a locally-made pistol loaded with cartridges and one Cherokee jeep with registration number LND 25 CE were recovered from the suspects.
He gave the names of the suspect as Ganiyu Olaiya, Segun Makanjuola, Bisi Akinleye and Bayo Adekunle.
