The presidential candidate of the All Progressive Congress [APC], Muhammad Buhari, has said that no amount of provocative and reckless statement from politicians struggling to entrench their selfish desire will break the unity of Nigeria.
Mr. Buhari spoke during a roundtable meeting with some members of the business community in Kano, Tuesday.
“Those who are determine by all means to create a rift and cause anarchy in the name of politics would fail just the way they failed some years ago when we struggled to keep the nation one,” Mr. Buhari said.
Referring to the Nigerian civil war, the Biafran war, which took place from July, 1967 to January, 1970, Mr. Buhari said, “I marched for good 30 months, through all sorts of atmosphere in a bid to keep Nigeria one but today some disgruntled elements because of their selfish thoughts and beliefs are hell-bent on dividing the nation along ethnic and religious lines.”
Mr. Buhari expressed his alarm at the sight of millions of young people that follow him throughout his campaign shouting his name.
“These young men who have no job, nothing, they constitute a great danger to this country,” he said. “That is why it is imperative to put job creation as one of the serious issues at stake because these people who followed our convoys, shouting our names, are doing it with the message that they should be rescued from their predicament and the earlier we do that, the better.”
Mr. Buhari emphasized that security, which is one of the focal point of his campaign, would mean curtailing, and totally eradicating the insurgency and returning peace to the people.
He assured that he would build a Nigeria that is a producing country not a nation reliant on foreign finished products.
“If China would have “made in China” and people are struggling to get it why not Nigeria?” he asked. “We should also have “made in Nigeria” products going out from our great country.”
