The Chairman/CEO of Channels Television, Mr John Momoh on Thursday said the new media propelled by social platforms provides much opportunity for growth but at the same time presents challenges to traditional media.
Speaking during a forum organised by KPMG for its alumni on trending media changes, Mr Momoh, who said “today’s audiences expect to be able to choose what they consume”, noted that “most (audiences) believe that they should be able to contribute content and opinions too.
“Media organisations have recognised this shift and are beginning to incorporate social media as part of their journalism content”, he said.
He further maintained that “what we are experiencing is a technology-driven process of accelerated change where journalism is being transformed”, adding that “while their may be a damaging consequences of these trends for the quality of journalism and the professional survival of journalists, I believe very strongly that the current development, may in fact, be paving the way towards better journalism and more independent journalists”, he maintained.
Meanwhile, the CEO of Ebony Life Television, Mo Abudu, believes professionalism and expertise are key drivers for growth in the industry.
