17 measles cases recorded in Adamawa

There has been an outbreak of measles in Adamawa State with over 17 cases recorded with the state’s Ministry of Health.
The Director Public Health in the ministry, Chidama Barka, disclosed this to journalists and added that while no deaths had been recorded, there were efforts to contain the outbreak.
In January 2014, the National Emergency Management Agency announced the outbreak of the disease in some Internally Displaced Persons camps in the state.
“Two weeks back, 17 reported measles cases were recorded in Saint Theresa Cathedral camp in Jimeta.
“While there were around
​10​ to ​20​ cases reported from main Internally Displaced Persons camp at Bajabure in Girei local government area,” Mr. Barka said​.

He said the ministry deployed emergency health personnel to the affected areas and that all those infected are responding to treatment.
Mr. Barka that it was unfortunate that the incursion of some IDPs from neighboring states might have cause the new cases.
He said that for a long time, the state has not recorded any epidemic of measles.
“What we are experiencing in the state are isolated cases in some areas, but at this hot season we may likely experience some pocket cases,” Mr. Barka said.
