The All Progressives Congress, APC, senatorial candidate for Lagos West, Solomon Adeola, on Saturday alleged that his Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, counterpart invaded his office with a pump action rifle in an attempt to assassinate him.
Mr. Adeola, known by his supporters as ‘Yayi,’ said that Segun Adewale of the PDP led police officers and thugs in the attack around 7.15 p.m. at his Ikeja office.
The Lagos PDP, however, described the claims as a “tissue of lies.”
According to Mr. Adeola, the alleged attack happened while he was attending to party supporters following a visit to Awori Obas earlier in the day.
“Personally wielding a pump action rifle, APC party supporters who took to their heels heard Mr. Adewale shouting for Hon. Adeola to come out as he released a volley of shots into the office,” Mr. Adeola said in a statement on Saturday night.
“The gate was damaged as well as the rear windshield of Hon. Adeola Toyota Land cruiser Jeep parked inside the office premises. Equally bullet pellets damaged the exterior of the office room of Hon Adeola’s office.”
Mr. Adeola said that the incident had been reported to the police.
“The attack today is a brazen assassination attempt as both the vehicle and personal office of Hon. Adeola was hit by bullets fired by PDP aspirant who came in his branded campaign vehicle to carry out the attack.”
The PDP in Lagos State denied the allegations, adding that such claims are a “continuation of the lies being spun” by the ruling party in the state.
“It is not true that the PDP or any of its candidates is going around attacking any APC member. Are they kidnappers?” Gani Taofeek, Publicity Secretary of the Lagos State PDP, told PREMIUM TIMES over the phone.
“Is it not laughable that in a state where APC is controlling, they are spinning such lies? All these are self-sponsored attacks to blackmail the PDP. Let ‘Yayi’ and his people know that their time is up.”
When contacted, the Lagos State Police Command said that they had received the complaints.
“It just happened last night and investigations are on,” said Ken Nwosu, the Lagos State Police spokesperson.
