President Goodluck Jonathan has condemned the reversion to the ‘callous bombing’ of soft targets in parts of Nigeria by the Boko Haram terrorist group.
The President’s statement came after two suicide bombings occurred on Tuesday in Potiskum, Yobe State in the north-east and Kano in north-western Nigeria.
At least 15 persons were killed and 53 others injured after a suicide bomber detonated a bomb at the Tashar Dan-Borno Motor Park in Potiskum town, Yobe State, Nigeria’s north-east region.
In Kano, 12 persons were killed after a bomb went off in Kano, Kano State in Nigeria’s north western region.
The blast, which  occurred at the Kano Line motor park, was carried out by two male suicide bombers within the ages of 15 and 16.
Misguided And Desperate Fanatics
President Jonathan condemned the attacks that are coming in the wake of the ongoing rapid recovery by gallant Nigerian troops and their multinational allies of areas formerly controlled by the sect.
“I commiserate with all families who have lost loved ones in the bombings,” he said.
A statement by the spokesman for the President, Dr Reuben Abati, said the President shared the grief of all the bereaved families and was deeply saddened by the continued loss of many innocent lives at the hands of “misguided and desperate fanatics”.
To A Successful Conclusion
He said:  “The sect members are feeling the heat of the intense counter-insurgency operation by the Nigerian Armed Forces”.
The President assured all Nigerians and the people of the North-Eastern states in particular that “the days of mourning victims of incessant terrorist attacks in the country will soon be over, as the tide has now definitely turned against the Boko Haram”.
President Jonathan further assured Nigerians that the gallant, courageous and patriotic officers and men of the Nigerian Armed Forces, supported with new platforms, equipment and logistics provided by the Federal Government would carry the ongoing operations against the terrorists through to a successful conclusion in the shortest possible time.

He stressed his administration would continue to take all necessary action to guarantee the success of ongoing military operations against the terrorist group and drastically reduce its ability to take and hold territory or recruit, groom and brainwash young persons to undertake suicide bombing attacks on soft targets.
