The Buhari Youth Organization, a youth wing of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the northeast region has accused the state chairman of APC, Ali Bukar Dalori, of behaving in a manner capable frustrating the victory of the party’s presidential candidate, Muhammadu Buhari, in the February 14 polls.
Garba Umar, who coordinates youth organization BYO in the northeast made this accusation at a press conference in Maiduguri, the Borno state capital, at the end of a protest rally against the feared postponement of the February general elections.
Mr. Umar said “the Borno APC chairman had persistently frustrated the activities of the youth wing of the party in the state”.
“Let this message be taken to the Borno state chairman of APC that we have seen his un-progressive antics by trying to frustrate our campaigns here in Borno. He had persistently stood against the youth wing and has refused to recognize or work with them for selfish reasons.
“He is not a true politician; if he is a true politician he should know that no political party succeeds without the youths. We have chosen to ignore him for now because we have to carry on with our campaign for Buhari independent of the state’s APC support. We are going to address his issue at the appropriate time. But for now, we shall carry on with our campaigns to ensure that Buhari and Professor Osibanjo are returned victorious”.
The organization had earlier staged a rally in Maiduguri calling on INEC to ignore the call for election postponement.
“It is only the northeast zone people who are afflicted by the insurgency that should determine whether they want elections to hold or not,” said Mr. Umar. “And the general mood here is that we all want to vote come February 14th because most of us have received our PVCs.”
The Borno APC chairman, who was out of the town at the time the group was holding its rally, could not also be reached on phone as his line remained switched off.
