APC-led states to declare work free days for collection of PVCs

The All Progressives Congress, APC, has said two days holiday would be declared in all APC-led states to enable voters collect their Permanent Voters Cards, PVCs.

This was stated by the party’s chairman, John Oyegun, at a world press conference at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja.

“The country is fired up for change, the country is prepared for elections, people are tumbling over themselves to get their PVC every single day, the APC government is going to help in the process by declaring two work free days in all APC state, to assist everyone to get PVC,” Mr. Oyegun said.

He said the party would, however, not accept any postponement of the general elections scheduled to hold on February 14 and 28.

He described the calls for postponement as an attempt to rubbish the Independent national Electoral Commission, INEC, and a desperate ploy by the government led by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to avoid electoral defeat.

Mr. Oyegun said Nigerians understand where the orchestrated attempts involving instigation of political parties and other groups, flimsy legal challenges and cynical manipulation of national elders and leaders, were coming from.

“These are part of the PDP’s script to deny Nigerians their right to choose their leaders on the 14th and 28th of February,” he said.

Mr. Oyegun declared that this election was between the APC and PDP, and “every serious Nigerian knows that”.
He asked the Council of State not to become tools in the hand of an administration that wants to subvert the fragile democratic process.

“Unfortunately, the polity is being overheated to dangerous levels, with consequences that might be unpredictable at this stage,” he said.

He said INEC should be allowed to perform its duties without overbearing interference from other institutions of the state and the evil machinations of the PDP.

“Our party is encouraged by the fact that INEC has restated in clear and unambiguous terms its determination and ability to conduct the elections as planned.” he said.

Mr. Oyegun said that APC was aware of the challenges that have been or are being seriously tackled by the commission. He, however, noted that the clamour for postponement would not help the situation.

“APC reaffirms its commitment to fully participate in the general elections and will not accept any postponement,” he said.

He, however, noted that the collection of PVC was not part of the Nigerian law; therefore, Nigerians cannot be compelled to vote. “It’s a free will,” he said.
