The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has said that it will give special consideration to people with disabilities and the old in the forthcoming general election.
The Electoral Office in Sabongari Local Government in Kaduna State, Sani Muhammadu-Namadi said this on Monday at a one-day sensitisation workshop organised by INEC for stakeholders in the area.
“We were all directed by the INEC national headquarters that special consideration be given to disabled and aged-people in the forthcoming elections.
“The directive says people with disability should be treated and accredited first before others,” he said.
He appealed to the electorate to ensure that rules and regulations governing elections were strictly obeyed.
Mr. Muhammad-Namadi advised people without permanent voter card not to come to polling stations as there would be no provision for them to cast their vote.
While assuring that the election would be conducted through “open secret ballot system”, Mr. Muhammad-Namadi cautioned politicians against campaigning on election day.
The workshop drew participants from political parties, security agencies, non governmental organisations, religious organisations and journalists among others.
