FMC Workers Protest Rumoured Recall Of Former CMD

CHANNELS TV
Nurses and workers of the Federal Medical Centre, Owerri have called on the Federal Government through the Minister of Health to shelve plans to recall former Chief Medical Director, Mrs Angela Uwakwem.
The workers made this known during a peaceful protest staged round the institution, demanding that the federal government ensure that due process and rule of law is followed in the case of Mrs Uwakwem that was indicted in a committee report of alleged embezzlement and financial misappropriation.
They maintained that in the last 6 months that the Interim Management Committee set up by the government in handling the affairs of the centre, there has been relative peace, and bringing the former MD back would result to chaos in the centre.
They however appealed to the federal government to have a rethink in the rumored plan of bringing back the Former CMD.
Meanwhile, at the press briefing in Owerri, the Imo state capital, earlier this month, the Interim Management Committee chairman while fielding questions from newsmen on the purported rumour of the former CMD’s return and some other issues, said the IMC has no business intervening in what transpired between workers and the previous management, that their only agenda is to restore peace in the centre and ensure that medical activities get back to normalcy which the IMC has successfully achieved in the last 6-7months
Six months ago, the Former CMD, was asked to step aside to allow the committee set up by the federal government look into the alleged financial misappropriation leveled against her by staff of the Federal Medical Centre Owerri.
