A civil society group, Oghara Centre for Justice and Development is calling on the Federal Government to set up an enquiry into the alleged extra judicial killing of the Chairman, Oghara Vigilante Group, Mr Benson Ogedegbe.
Mr Ogedegbe is alleged to have been killed by men of the Nigerian Army, attached to 19 Batallion, stationed at Koko, Warri North Local Government Area.
The wife of the deceased, who said she witnessed the killing, told Channels Television that an attempt by them to protest the murder of her husband at Oghara on June 30, 2015 of was thwarted by the Nigerian Army, hence their collaboration with civil society to seek justice in Benin City.
Meanwhile, the spokesman of the 4th Brigade Command of the Nigerian Army, Captain Jonah Unuakhalu, in a text message said both army and the police are conducting independent investigation into all allegations.
He noted that “the Nigerian Army did not torture any protesters but dispossessed them of dangerous substances such as kerosene and petrol which they were going to use for the protest”, the text message said.
