The National Chairman of All Progressives Congress, Odigie Oyegun, on Tuesday assured the Benin Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mine and Agriculture of President Muhammadu Buhari administration’s commitment to revamping of the economy.
Mr. Oyegun, a long-time member of BENCCIMA, said, “the chamber has suffered for a long time due to economic mismanagement, particularly in the last six to 10 years.
“The new government is devoted to the progress of Nigeria. We can only revive the economy by revamping industries and the power sector.
“When you have an industry that is not protected by government that industry cannot succeed. The federal system before now had failed its own manufacturing sector.
“Without power, no government can think of economic development, you cannot talk about reviving the economy when there are no jobs and steady power supply.
“The President Buhari administration is committed to doing all this and revamping the economy”, he said.
The President of BENCCIMA, Andy Edobor, while congratulating Mr. Oyegun on his party’s victory at the 2015 polls, appealed to him to use his good offices to alleviate the challenges faced by the chamber.
Mr. Edobor said there is the need to grow micro, small and medium enterprises, and develop Gelegele Port and industrial estates in the state.
According to the president, there is a lot of natural and human resources in the state waiting to be fully harnessed.
He appealed to Mr. Oyegun to use his office to attract federal government’s assistance to the state.
Mr. Edobor also said the chamber was prepared to work with government at all levels to create the needed environment conducive for economic development.
