The National Council of Muslim Youths has warned all Muslims to be security conscious at mosques during the Id’El Fitri celebration .
The celebration marks the end of Ramadan.
The call came on Tuesday in a press statement issued by the council’s national president, Kamal’ddin Akintunde.
Mr. Akintunde said this call came on the heels of the reports of bomb blasts and attacks in some parts of Nigeria, coupled with the Inspector General of Police statement, alerting the nation of cross border movement and activities of the insurgents, which NACOMYO believes can undermine or endanger smooth celebration of the Eid-el-fitri.
“NACOMYO implores Muslims and other Nigerians to be security conscious at Eid praying grounds, just as it emphasizes the need by our security agencies to be alive to their responsibilities and do the needful at the various praying centres and other crowded areas,” the group stated.
The youth group reminded Muslims and other Nigerians that being vigilant in this case involved not allowing suspicious or strange vehicles to park close to crowded areas, not picking (strange) objects, always announce every strange face and suspicious movements, even within the perimeter or areas of coverage of worship and celebrations.
The also implored community development/landlord associations nationwide to ensure vigilance in their areas while they must also know facts about their tenants. The group asked Nigerians to be their brother’s keeper, stating that security is everybody’s responsibility.
