Yobe declares 2-day holiday for civil servants to collect PVCs

The Governor of Yobe state, Ibrahim Gaidam, has declared a two-day holiday for workers in the state to enable them obtain their Permanent Voter Cards, PVCs.
Thursday and Friday would be used by all workers who have not collected their PVCs from the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to do so., the government said.
According to a statement by Abdullahi Bego, the spokesperson of the state governor, the decision came amidst concerns that many civil servants in the state were unable to receive their cards.
“This is to inform members of the general public that His Excellency Governor Ibrahim Gaidam FCNA, FCPA has approved the declaration of Thursday, February 5 and Friday, 6 as public holidays to enable workers across the State to collect their Permanent Voters’ Card, PVC, from officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in their respective areas,” Mr. Bego said.
“His Excellency the Governor urges all workers and people across the State who have not yet collected their PVCs to use the period to collect their cards as a step towards exercising their civic duty to vote during the forthcoming elections.”
According to the statement, workers in commercial banks and related essential business outfits in the state were exempted from the two-day holiday.
“However, banks and other financial institutions operating in the state can open their doors for business during this period. All business and commercial activities will continue throughout the State during the two-day PVC-collection holiday,” the statement explained.
