Governor Aliyu Wamakko of Sokoto State has declared Friday public holiday to enable residents of the state collect their Permanent Voter Cards, PVCs.
The declaration was contained in a statement issued in Sokoto by the Special Assistant to the Governor on Press Affairs, Abubakar Dangusau.
Mr. Dangusau said that the holiday was to enable workers and other residents collect their PVCs.
He urged those yet to collect their PVCs to come out en masse and collect them, saying doing this would enable them to exercise their franchise during the elections.
“The PVC remains the only weapon the voters can use to elect the candidates of their choice during the forthcoming polls,” it said.
“The state government warns the people of the state of the activities of members of a syndicate going round the state and buying off PVCs from unsuspecting eligible voters.
“This act is illegal and punishable by the laws of the country and such cards are useless on election dates due to the introduction of the use of card readers by INEC,” Mr. Dangusau said.
