Sultan Of Sokoto Questions Relevance Of Huge Security Budgets

Channels Tv
The Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence, Alhaji Abubakar Saad, has questioned the relevance of the huge budgets being allocated for the fight against insurgency and maintenance of security in the troubled north east and other parts of Nigeria.
The Sultan, who is also the President General of the Jamatu Nasil Islam (JNI), in a statement he issued on Sunday through the Secretary General of the association, Dr Abubakar Kahlid, condemned the attack on a mosque in Kano on Friday and called on Muslims faithful all over the country to remain calm and keep vigil over happenings around them.
He also urged them to take all defensive measures within the purview of the laws to protect themselves since government has clearly failed.
‘Intensify special prayers’
The Sultan urged all authorities concerned to be committed to their responsibility of protecting the lives and property of Nigerians as no development could be achieved in a situation of fear, insecurity and chaos.
“All hands must be on deck to stop the persistent massacre of innocent lives by the Boko Haram terrorists,” the statement read.
The Sultan expressed worries that the Boko Haram attacks always escalate whenever there was agitation for the extension of the State of Emergency in the troubled north-east states.
He however, expressed doubts that persons perpetrating the acts of terrorism were true worshipers of Allah, but wondered the essence of the Government’s War on Terror since “it cannot protect its citizens from being attacked by the sect”.

Alhaji Saad further called on Imams and their respective followers all over the country to ‘intensify special prayers’, as it was the only weapon to overcome the insurgents.
