FG Signs $900mln Power Deal With Brazilian Company

BBC NEWS
The Federal Government of Nigeria has signed a $900 million power deal with a Brazilian company, BENCO Energy, for the generation of 700
At a meeting between the government and officials of the company in Abuja on Friday, the Minister of Power, Professor Chinedu Nebo, said that the effort would assist in achieving the Federal Government’s vision of increased power generation and distribution.
Officials of the group said that the programme would be completed in three years and would be situated in Bayelsa, South-south Nigeria.
To increase investments in the power sector in Nigeria, the government unbundled the Power Holding Company of Nigeria in November last year, opening it up for private investors to come into the sector

The government has consistently called for more investments in the sector to help boost the generation of power that is still below 8,000 megawatts in a country of over 160 million population.
