BREAKING: Nasarawa Impeachment: Lawmakers flee state capital; relocate to remote local govt for sitting

The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has relocated to Karu Local Government Area and is currently sitting to deliberate on a petition against the state Chief Judge, Suleiman Dikko, over the composition of the seven-member panel raised to investigate allegations against Governor Umaru Al-Makura. The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP-dominated Assembly had asked the chief judge to set up the panel as part of the impeachment process of Mr. Al-Makura. The governor, a member of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has denied any wrongdoing and his party has condemned the impeachment process and blamed the PDP and the presidency for it. It is not clear why the lawmakers abandoned the Assembly Complex in the state capital, Lafia, to sit in Karu, near Abuja. But there have been widespread protests against the impeachment process across the state.
