Ekiti Assembly Chief Whip Defects From PDP To APC

Channels Tv
The Chief Whip of Ekiti State House of Assembly, Ms Cecilia Dada, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Ms Dada disclosed this to reporters on Monday in Ado, the state capital. She explained that her decision was a result of the actions of the party’s leadership which she described as ‘killing’ to the party. The lawmaker is the second member of the PDP to defect to the ruling APC in the last two weeks.
Speaker of the Assembly, Adeniran Alagbada, had last week while receiving a lawmaker who joined the APC, stated that purported cracks within the fold of the Ekiti PDP were bringing fortunes to the APC.
There had been a division in the Ekiti PDP recently with the Senate Minority Leader, Senator Abiodun Olujimi, and the immediate past governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose, coordinating different groups and claiming to be the authentic leaders of the party.
Former Governor Fayose took the tussle to another level when he came on air on a private radio station in the state, asking the people not to vote for Senator Olujimi who is the party’s candidate for Ekiti South Senatorial District in the general elections.
This new defection brings to five the number of APC lawmakers in the 26-member Assembly.
Ten PDP lawmakers are on suspension for alleged misconduct levelled against them on the day a former speaker of the House, Mr Kola Oluwawole, was impeached in October 2018.
