Benue Workers Commence Indefinite Strike

Civil servants in Benue State have commenced an indefinite strike over unpaid salaries.

The state workers allege that they are being owed for seven months, while the local government workers claim they are owed for eleven months.

The organized labour in the State has threatened to shut down financial institutions, markets and schools as part of measures to pressure government to clear the salaries owed to workers.

The state NLC chairman, Comrade Godwin Anya, while addressing journalist in Makurdi on the indefinite strike action, which commence today, October 3, 2017, insists the industrial action will persist until the government pays the seven months state civil servants and 11 months Local Government staff outstanding salaries.

Meanwhile the Benue State Government is appealing to the striking workers to return to their offices and assist the government in completing the processes of accessing additional funds and clear the outstanding salaries, which varies between state civil servants and local government employees.
