Mr Ahmed Echoda, who was arraigned by the police for allegedly giving false information to the police, leading to the raid on the house of the Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, has been granted bail.
Magistrate Umar Kagarko of the Upper Area Court in Gudu, Abuja, granted Mr Echoda bail in the sum of N500,000. He is to also provide one surety who must be someone of reasonable character and has a verifiable address in the Federal Capital Territory.
The suspect was arraigned on Tuesday last week for allegedly providing the Nigerian Police Force false information based on which a raid was conducted on Senator Ekweremadu’s official guest house in Maitama, Abuja.
Upon his arraignment last week, Magistrate Kagarko ordered that he be remanded in the Keffi Prison till today, for ruling on his bail application.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge. Hearing on the case has been adjourned till July 20, 2017.
