FIFA Confederation Cup: Cameroon start on losing note

premiumtimesng.com

African champions Cameroon on Sunday started out their FIFA Confederation Cup campaign on a losing note as they conceded two late goals against a resolute Chilean team.
The Indomitable Lions gave a good account of themselves in the Group B clash, but the South Americans deservedly won the tie with late strikes from Arturo Vidal and Eduardo Vargas
After coming close on several occasions and having a goal chucked off, Chile had their breakthrough in the 81st minute when second half substitute Alexis Sanchez delivered a well laid cross to Vidal who nodded home expertly.
Sanchez also had a hand in the second goal which was scored by Vargas in the 90th minute.
The goal was initially overruled but the newly introduced video replay system ensured that the goal stood as Chile claimed an opening day 2-0 win.
In the other Sunday game, Portugal and Mexico played out a pulsating 2-2 draw.
