Akwa Ibom State Police Command has discountenanced its earlier position on the fate of victims of a collapsed wall at Ederebo Market in the state.
The spokesperson for the police, Cordelia Nwawe, briefed reporters on the new development at the Police Headquarters in Uyo, the state’s capital.
Nwawe said contrary to their earlier position that two lives were lost in the incident, discrete investigation revealed that no life was lost in the collapse.
She maintained that as at Tuesday, there was no documented evidence or record of any deaths arising from the incident.
The police spokesperson added that a total of nine victims, who sustained injuries, were receiving treatment at the Ibom Specialist Hospital.
She noted that four victims sustained severe injuries and were undergoing surgeries in the same hospital.
The police command further revealed that it had put several measures in place to ensure crime free Christmas and New Year celebrations.
The wall was said to have fallen on Monday in Ikot Akpatek axis of Onna Local Government Area in Akwa Ibom State, southeast Nigeria.
