Nigeria’s Minister of Police Affairs , Abduljelil Adeshiyan, has defended the comment made by the Inspector General of Police, Suleiman Abba, on the status of the defected Speaker, Aminu Tambuwal, in line with the provisions of the law.

In an interview with Channels Television’s  correspondent, Gbenga Ashiru, the Police Minister said the matter regarding the status of Honorable Aminu Tambuwal, as the Speaker of the House of Representatives, was in court and it would amount to subjudice for him to determine his status .
Mr Adeshiyan, however, pointed out that it was not honourable for honourable Tambuwal to still parade himself as a speaker of the House of Representatives after defecting to a minority party, the All progressives Congress.
“The IG is a lawyer and he knows what he meant. If they are in doubt, they should take him to court.
“Is it fair for someone to ride on the back of a majority party to become a speaker and leave the majority party and still want to retain his seat as a speaker. Is it honourable for him?” He questioned.
He insisted that what some lawmakers exhibited on the day the of the fracas was at variance with international norms and order.
The police had stopped the Speaker and other members of the House of Representatives from gaining access into the National Assembly complex, claiming they got a tip-off that the hoodlums were coming to the National Assembly.

Some lawmakers had to climb the gates of the complex to enter into the Assembly for plenary.
