Jega Meets Traditional Rulers For Peaceful Elections

The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Professor Atahiru Jega, has called on traditional rulers to educate politicians and electorates in their communities on the need for peaceful elections in 2015.
He made the call during one of the several forums organised by INEC to engage stakeholders ahead of the elections with the objective of enlisting the support of all for a free, fair and peaceful elections in 2015.
As politicians position for contest, INEC used the event to seek the support of royal fathers to moderate their conducts and that of their supporters for peaceful elections.
According to Professor Jega, polls conducted have revealed that traditional rulers influence their subjects during elections.
He noted that the political atmosphere for 2015 had become charged, saying some prominent politicians were already making statements that could undermine the peaceful conduct of the elections.
The INEC Chairman promised that the commission would continue to do all it can to reduce the apprehensions and ensure peaceful elections next year.
It is barely two months to the general elections.
