The Sultan Of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar (III), has asked religious leaders to speak against killings in the name of religion.
The Sultan who was speaking in Abuja, said that bad religious teachings have been responsible for the incessant violence, especially in southern Kaduna.
In the last few months, increased clashes between Fulani herdsmen and locals in southern Kaduna, have led to wanton destruction of lives and property.
The National Emergency Management Agency in Nigeria (NEMA), has put the number of deaths that have occurred in the region, at 204.
Meanwhile, contrary to that report, a Catholic church had earlier said 808 people were killed as of December 2016, a figure disputed by the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris.
The Catholic Church also said 1,422 houses, 16 Churches, 19 shops, and one primary school were destroyed.

Confirming the incident, the Kaduna Police spokesperson, Aliyu Usman said the deaths occurred when gunmen suspected to have been herdsmen launched an attack on the community.
Meanwhile, the Senior Special Adviser, (Media and Publicity) to the President, Garba Shehu, has assured residents that solution is on the way as the President has ordered the establishment of two military units to provide security in the region.
